Hello class. How are you today? You know I always dreamt to be a teacher and I worked hard for it. So here I am doing what I love to do. I am sure all of you have dreams as well. It is important to have dreams, to aspire for something in life.
Can you write down your dreams and aspirations in life? You have 5 minutes to do so.

Today we are going to read a speech, Speech belongs to non fiction genre as well. Speech was started by Greeks who used to train their children in art of speaking. Have you heard of Aristotle or Socrates?
They were the famous Greek Orators.
In Indonesia, Sukarno is considered one of the best orators.

Classroom language:
Today, we are going to read a speech given by Sukarno at the opening of the Bandung conference in 1955.
In this speech Sukarno talks about different faces of colonialism.
He was a man of vision who understood what the developed countries wanted from the underdeveloped countries.
With your partner, read the speech and put a question mark wherever you don’t understand.
We will discuss it after you finish reading.

Classroom Language:
How was the speech? What did you understand? Take a moment to read and understand the discussion questions.
Discuss these questions with your partner.
Are you done? Let’s look at your discussions.

Classroom Language:
There is a common saying in English: if you don’t dream, you do nothing.” It means if we don’t have dreams, we don’t know what we want from life. I am sure all of you have dreams and you know what you want from life. So think about this saying and write your thoughts about it.

Classroom Language:
In this section we will talk about 2 things: how to write about hopes and how to congratulate people.
Hope is something we want to happen. It is the light at the end of dark night. Hope keeps us alive.
Whenever we talk about hopes we always use –ing verb or infinitive.

These are some expressions of hope:
I am hoping for a good report this year.
I hope to get good grades this year.
I hope that there is world peace.

We can also use the word “want”to express hope.
I want to become a doctor when I grow up. (want in this sentence
replaces hope but the meaning remains the same)
Whenever we want to express our joy for someone else’s success we congratulate them.

These are some examples how to congratulate others.
Well done!
Fantastic job!
Marvelous!

Classroom Language:
Are you ready to find out what other people are hoping for?
Allright, here is what you do. Go to “Active Conversation”section of Chapter 3 in your book.
You are going to interview people and find out what their hopes are for themselves and for the world.
Are you done?
Who wants to share their findings first?

Some people see hope for world in people working together.
Some people hope to end world hunger.
Some people hope to work hard to do something worthwhile.
Some people hope to fulfill dreams of their parents.
Everyone has hopes but we have different hope.
Sometimes our hopes are different from hopes of our parents.
What are your hopes and dreams?
You have to write a short speech about your hopes.
Your speech should not be more than 200 words.
You have to express what you want to do or achieve in life.
Use the hope expression you learnt in building blocks.
